Wetland Park
Ive been thinking about how and why the local color of an object is being changed by the light. I think this greatly speeds up my process because I'm not spending alot of time trying to match colors between the images, instead, im trying to find a similar color and value that makes sense... if that makes sense. Although the painting is not a great copy in terms of color, I think it still reads well on its own.
I was able to get this one out in only 30 minutes.

Art 55b Final
This is my final for life drawing. We were to chose a master painter/draftsman and do our best to copy it. I chose Paul Pierre Proudhon. This is what i came up with.
School At Dusk
I took this picture after finishing my final animation. I thought the lighting was interesting so I painted it. And I'm quite happy with the results. It took a bit longer than usual. 1.4 hours but i felt i was learning alot the whole time.

Waiting For the Train
Aidan told me I should take my own reference. So here is my train stop going to school.
It's a bit bright. and the perspective is way off. but I'm happy with my color choices. I feel like I learned a lot more from my own reference.

Blue Hills
Not using overlay layers has been a challenge. But I'm training my eyes. I'm also playing with a focal point.
After posting, I realize everything in the back can go much lighter, a mistake I keep repeating bleh.

Ice
Wow after posting it, I realize the cast shadow of the big mountain on the left is going in the complete wrong direction haha.
Moonlit Bridge
A new one from imagination! I was really unsure about a lot of stuff while painting this. I need to study night scenes as well as water. BTW, In case it isnt reading, the whole right side is under the cast shadow of a mountain.

Japan
Today I gave myself 2 limitations: no special layers like overlay or soft light, and i did not allow myself to open the ref in Photoshop. I just kept it in the internet browser.
The results are dramatic and apparent. I have been relying on those 2 things like a crutch. yuck. I think it's good that recognize them as mere tricks and I'm gonna try to avoid them with referenced paints. On the other hand though, I think special layers are fine for original paintings since the objective is not to color pick and replicate using just the eye.
Anyway here's what I came up with

coooool
I felt I needed to change it up. To many sunny warm grass landscapes. I'm gonna do a few cool city scapeish refs before attempting an original.

More Painting From Imagination
Yesterday I got the Art Of Tangled book and the Vis-Dev paintings by Craig Mullins, Laurent Ben-Mimoun, and Lisa Keen Blew me away I made this from that inspiration. I'm not happy with it and I don't hate it. I've got a long way to go.

Final Character Turn Around
So here's my final character, decided to ditch the whole toaster thing haha. Just a simple turn around and some sketches he might look like in action.
Sorry about the bad photo. My rooms lighting is terrible, and I'm to lazy to move the pile of books on top of my scanner XD.
