Sorolla Study #2

I was about to open up photoshop and paint this when I realized how painterly the original one looked, so I brought my acrylics outa the dust and painted this. The scanner blew the hell outa all the whites so it looks all over exposed. bah.

First Plein Air

I bought some Gouache today. I never used it before but it feels like a mix between acrylic and watercolor. Anyway, This was fun. but looks terrible haha. Gotta keep at it.

Morning Coffee

I've been watching TheWire recently and liked a character named Lester so I did a bit of fan art today :)

Gerome Study 2

Another Gerome study. I realized half way through the painting I don't know what the heck is casting that shadow haha. I'm thinking its that little bird cage/box thing in the upper left but I'm not sure. either way it's beautiful.

Sorolla Study

Getting the water to actually look like water was tough on this one, but I think I achieved it finally by using many small strokes to indicate water and reflections. Sorolla really was a master at painting water.

Delazo Study

I've been wanting to work on faces so I chose this portrait to study.

I'm prety happy with it but theres sooo much more going on at a closer look at the original. There's alot of blues and greens that I didn't include in her face.

Gerome Study

Heres number 3 of the master studies: Gerome "Pelt Merchant Of Cairo"
I tried simplifying a lot of the painting and working on value and saturation instead.

Assassin'sThumbs

Spent most of the day at the Zoo followed by shopping and dinner with family. Got some great photos that I'll probably paint in the future... I need to work on animals anyway.

Ended up not having much time for a painting but I wanted to get something done so I did these thumbs.

I'm thinking about some Assassin's Creed Fan Art. Here's some ideas.

Which should I use?

Red Head

Inspired by the great Craig Mullins

Ive been avoiding painting metal for some reason so I made it a point to include it in this character. I'm happy with the results

SnowMan

I was reading Jon's post
http://jsmash101.blogspot.com/2011/06/i-like-dancing-too.html
and found this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u94fCq3fxg8
and liked the pants they wore so I put it into a character design haha. this is what i came up with.

Ultimately I'd like to do character design and I've mostly been doing studies of environments so im gonna try to start doing more characters that are not to cliche i hope.

Spent about an hour and a half figuring out the line work. decided to call it for today's speedy. I may paint it today... or tomorrow

More Sheep

Today I finished the rain and night set ups. Yesterday I strugled a lot with just the first one. I spent about 5 hours messing around with the sun lit one before i just scrapped the whole thing and started over. I ended up using Goro's method he covered in the demo at school. It made things much simpler and faster, especially for an image like this where light was my main concern.

The "Lock Transparent Pixels" button is ammmaazzzing.

By the way, I got the idea of using this sheep from this image I painted last semester. I did this before starting these speed paintings.  Ive learned so much doing these last 50 paintings :D

Sheep

I had planned to do this painting yesterday but was feeling sick. Goro Suggested that I paint a character in a few different lighting scenarios. I plan to do 4 setups: sunny, night time, diffuse light, and camp fire light.

I only did 2 today, Sunny, and Diffuse light.

Dear John Movie Still

I never saw this movie but I liked the lighting on this screen cap.
