Goro Fujita gave me some homework . I was to create 4 cubes with a white stripe from imagination with no reference in different lighting settings. These are the cubes he suggested.
1. sunny
2. overcast
3. night with a few fireflies around it
4. rainy night (light coming from street light off frame)
And here is the result.
I did a similar exercise in the past with sheep. I think I've improved :)
The old sheep exercise can be found here <--

Arthur Guptill & New Sketchbook!
Today I my Light and Optics teacher John Clapp gave a tremendously helpful lecture on general sketching on location. He showed us some amazing pencil sketches by Arthur Guptill who uses a pencil like its a brush, simplifying complex scenes effortlessly. Check him out!
I had to go home and give it a shot. Here's a sketch from my window of my neighbors house.
Also I completed my current sketchbook finally so this is the first page of my new one I picked up today yay! :)

#173 LightTest
Last week Dice Tsutsumi came and gave a talk at school. A student asked him his painting process and he replied something like "I paint at first with no light, and then turn them on one by one. key, fill, rim, skyfall, etc" This is also EXACTLY how Goro Fujita explained it just a year ago.
There must be something to this method, and I think I've strayed away from it. Here's a shot at it again.
Also, I got Mass Effect on the brain as you might notice.

I painted this in acrylic paint, then went over it heavily in Photoshop. It makes for some interesting texture.

#171 Richard Schmid Study
I was flipping through my copy of "Alla Prima" by Richard Schmid and decided to do a study of one of his paintings. I'm really happy with how this came out. All my past attempts at portraits with wet media have always been terrible failures.
Learning from Inga and John have helped tremendously this semester. :)

Ani 12 Specimen Project
Here's my Specimen Project for Ani 12. the assignment was to take 2 items and combine them realistically. I chose a Hercules beetle and a strawberry.... But it just looks like a beetle. >_<
