Ive been thumbnailing a lot of little imaginary perspective scenes for fun. I liked this one so i blew it up and quickly painted over it. I think the left side is out of the cone of vision and starting to look wonky.
About an hour and a half of work.

#162 - F22
About an hour sketch. lots of laso tooling and air brushing.
My perspective class really helped me nail the initial sketch quickly.
I also went plein air painting with some friends at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Prisma Color Pencil
My usual go to drawing tool for figures is a china marker but could not find one so I tried out a Prisma Color Pencil and instantly fell in love with it.
It's non-messy and dark like a china marker but still provides a nice value range like charcoal. And it flows like butter on smooth newsprint. :D Here's a 20 min pose using it.

Leapday sketches
Yesterday my perspective teacher gave a great demo and passed his personal sketchbook around the class. It was all very inspiring. I also picked up a great pen at the student store "Pilot G-Tec-C4" the international version of the fabled Hi-Tec-C pens. So I had to do a bit of sketching.

#161
This Friday, Jon Clapp gave a great lecture on the optics and science of water for illustrators. I learned a lot and wanted to apply what I'd learned in a painting. I also tried to apply Goro's advice and really push the light and mood.

Todd McFarlane interview - Kingdoms of Amalur
I was delighting to see this video in my youtube subscription box today. its a 30 minute video with 2 people I admire in two totally different ways. Sean (day9) Plot interviewsT odd McFarlane on the new game: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, of which Todd was art director. I played the game a little bit and the art and animation is superb. So naturally I was excited to watch this.

#160 Paintover by Goro + a few figures
Goro Fujita gave me a great crit on my last painting noting that I can push the light further. Ive been doing this same thing with my last few paintings, so I'm really going to work on pushing the light for my next few. Here's my origianl and Goro's paint over side by side.
I really like what he did by pushing the warm lights and adding some atmosphere.
Thanks Goro!
And here's a few figures I liked from today.

#158 - King
I recently picked up "Alla Prima: Everything I know About Painting" by Richard Schmid. And learned a lot about edges, focal point, a bit about color. I tried to apply what I learned to this painting.
Life drawing marathon
I attended my first figure drawing marathon this year, 4 days of figure drawing with amazing guest speakers: Mark McDonnell, Cameron Chun, and Glen Vilppu. I had a lot of fun and learned so much and got a ton of practice in before Sheldon's anatomy class next semester. Although, I must say the timing on shutting down the heat in the building for a week could not have come at a worse time.
Anyway, I had a blast and hope we continue this tradition in the years to come, I'll look forward to them. It would be nice to compare these drawings to the ones I do a year from now at the next marathon!

my illustration teacher gave me a great critique on this one concerning the composition so i changed that a bit.
I spent hours messing with the colors on this one though, and I'm still not happy with it. but its time to move on.

Desert View
Hello! hope you all had a good New Year,
Heres the lines and simple values for the next piece I'll be working on.
I've found that putting in the time and effort to get a solid thumbnail and tight lines really pays of during the coloring part, making it a whole lot more fun.
Color soon!
