painting from imagination
It's been a long time since Ive painted anything from imagination but here's my first attempt in a long while. After finishing and taking a step away from it for a while, a lot of things bug me. The ground that is hit by the spot light coming through the clouds seems wrong. All the clouds look wrong. There's no real separation from the sky and the water. All of these things, I don't know how to fix. I made a rule for my self to use no reference at all. I think it would be interesting to repaint this with reference some time in the future.

Dude, this is sick! I love the idea. I get what you're saying about the ground that is hit by the spotlight. You could try making it a little whiter...I don't know if that will fix it, but that's what I feel. XD
ReplyDeleteI'm actually confused on the lightsource, because if it was coming from the top right, wouldn't the foreground be lit since there aren't any clouds? Disregard my comment if you had something else in mind. As you look up higher in the sky, the darker it gets.
Awesome look to your painting! Mine's boring..I'll post it soon.
