I found an amazing artist while watching the credits of uncharted 2 after beating it yesterday :) His name is Shaddy Safadi. I picked up his brush set that he shares on his site and painted this for today's speedy. Check his site out, its amazing. http://www.shaddyconceptart.com/

I think I kind of hit a milestone today. I'm quite happy with this painting. It needs a focal point though

And here's the lines since they took longer then the painting.

After watching this video by John Park, I tried his method of creating mechs from thumbnail to paint. It's a really fun process that literally begins with a square on paper.

The final painting

And some thumbnails

And the video. Check it out!

Bunch of Leyendecker studies

Goro gave me a great crit of my Noface and Chihiro painting as well as a paint over. I really love everything he did to the piece, even taking out the whole tree for compositional and silhouette / readability reasons.

I'm happy with the progress I'm making. Slow but steady sure enough. The more I learn the more I know I don't know. Here's to learning from mistakes :D Thank you Goro!

Been looking at a lot of Nathan Fowkes and Erwin Madrid work lately. Color and light really inspire me and they capture it beautifully.

Another quick one cause I fell behind yesterday :/

Tried to go for rain without actually painting rain drops.

because of texture, rocks reflect the color of the sky, but the stump has a very mat-non reflective surface so it's saturation and value goes up.

First of the year. 364 to go!

With paintings like this, I'm not very concerned with learning light or color. (who knows how Photoshopped the original image was.) Instead I'm trying to train my eye in seeing shadow shapes, value, and most importantly, I think, edge quality.

I think it's important to to studies like these once in a while because these are the paintings I can really play with "technique", learn from it, and apply it to personal work.
