#148 painted halloween girl

Finished just in time. Happy Halloween everyone :)

great resource

I found this interesting blog a while back and thought I'd share it.

http://cinemosaic.blogspot.com/

It's just a compilation of screencaps from many movies. I like to browse it sometimes when I need an idea for a painting. I suppose it could be used in other ways to.

#147 Terra Nova

I started watching Terra Nova on Hulu today. The pilot was not bad. I might follow it... but damn the production values are astounding for a tv show.. anyway I painted a character from the show for today's daily.

On a side note, this is the first portrait I've painted in a long long time. And I feel it's the best portrait I've ever done. everything I'm learning from Sheldon and Yee are coming together, its all making sense and I'm super excited I can see how I've improved this semester.

#146 Halloween Sketch

I like this sketch and plan to take it further with color
Edit:... I thought Halloween was this weekend. apparently, its on Monday and I'm stupid. on the upside, I'll have it painted before then. :)

Pascal Campion

Pascal Campion visited the campus yesterday and gave a great talk and Halloween themed demo. Here are some notes.
He also did a daily painting loosely inspired by his visit to SJSU Here :D

And some figures from yesterday and today. bunch of 5 mins and one 10.

#145 Magic

This is what happens when I want to paint but don't know what to paint

About 2 hours of work across 2 days. I think I like this pace while working.. maybe it'll get me back into speed painting. *crosses fingers* ><

New Sketchbook.

I finished my sketchbook for 112a and it's the first sketchbook I've ever completed cover to cover. I'm happy with the sketchbook as a whole and learned alot from it. Time to take it up a notch with this new one though... take it up a notch and slow it down. more observation, less generalization.

Anyway, today In 112, Dave Yee showed us a bit on sketchbooking in general. he showed us Baron Story's "triangles" that help slow you down when you find yourself scribbling away without thinking about the subject, and he showed us Carlos Haunte's "Primitive Shapes": using simple cubes, spheres, and cylinders to make random designs. It's an exercises in making your mind thinking in 3 dimentions. and its for damn sure more fun than drawing cubes... Definately check out both of these amazing artists!

Here's my aproved photo

Here's 0 hours in

and here's 1.5 hours in

Moonshine

I found this video on Goro's Blog It was ineradicably inspirational and I couldn't resist putting it here. It features some of my favorite artists all of which I respect greatly. Check it out!

Shadow shapes, scribbles, and a naked lady

This Friday we had a great model, Diane. She always does beautiful poses, and Friday was no exception, even though she was sick! :/

Also, in 112, were learning about shadow shapes and how with only 2 values and accurate sighting, you can capture likeness. I tried it out a bit with myself. (on the bottom right) they don't look much like me but its fun. yay!... and random doodles.
