#144 Sunny SJSU

I took a different approach to today's painting. I first laid down general shapes with a large soft brush, trying to be accurate with color, value, saturation, temperature, and composition. then i went over the painting again with a hard round brush and separated the masses with edges.

I like the result. there's a lot of fun variation in edge quality because of the large soft under painting. And its ideal for complicated scense like this because im not thinking about detail untill after my colors and values are already chosen.

it's also really fast. I did this in about 30 minutes.

Construction

We recently finished gesture in my life drawing class and are moving onto construction. I'm trying to learn as much as i can on my own as well as in class. Here's some studies from photo.

Thinking about plains, edges, spherical forms, box forms and how they fit into each other.

I havent done one of these in a while.

I forced myself to work at this size to make simplification easier.

#141 & 142 Sorceress

I haven't done any human characters from imagination in a while. Here's something to put what I've learned in my life drawing class to test.

My brother noticed she has a bit of a belly, i tried to explain her back is arching pushing her stomach out. We both ended up agreeing she just enjoys snacking on Funyuns when not slaying demons...I got diablo 3 on the mind.

I'll paint her soon!

Edit: Pianted!

Ani 55 First portfolio: Gestures

I've learned so much in these last 3 weeks of Art55. it's amazing how much my 112a class helps with just observing the model as well. I'm happy with these gestures. Still a long way to go. much more to learn!

#136 MeatBalls

Funny How the gesture is slightly off and the story is completely lost. Maybe I should start sketching by hand first.

My Room

Here's a 6 hour semi-blind contour pen drawing of my room for class. It wasent as boring as I thought it would be as I was listening to Book 2 of the Harry Potter audio books while drawing (Jim Dale is amazing)

I swear It's not as messy as the drawing appears to be ><

Mike Butkus

Hes worked on every movie, game, TV show, I've heard or haven't heard of. He can draw absolutely anything geez!

Something Clicked

After struggling alot today with figure drawing (from photo) with charcoal, I picked up a brush pen and just had at it. I think these are some of the best gestures I've done and I'm quite proud. I havent had a feeling like this in a long time.

I think a lot of it has to do with my new figure drawing class with Sheldon.  each is about 30-40 seconds

#135 Crystal Shrine

Ive been unable to update because of school. I think instead of doing 1 painting a day, I'll do 7 paintings a week. Hopefully that way I can catch up on the weekends without feeling guilty during the weekdays for not painting. Anyways, here's today's painting. ~1.5Hr

More Sketchin

A friend Showed me Paul Madonna's book. It was really inspiring. Ive taken a new direction in my sketches and I think it's heavily influenced by that book and my Intro Illustration class
